Deficit, black economy, symbols of freedom (Mickey Mouse, Levi’s jeans), smuggling of goodies, mafia…
You might be asking yourself what connects all these topics?
Stirian Artist in Residence
Lina Albrikiene (Vilnius) will explain the link and give an overview of the restrictions in the Soviet Union.
(The artist would appreciate it if you came dressed in your Levi’s jeans or/and Mickey Mouse garment, in order to feel the spirit of freedom.)
Lina Albrikiene is also going to show her new video installation “Convey”, which was recently presented in Kunsthalle Exnergasse (WUK) in Vienna. The installation is inspired by the novel "Das Weisse Leintuch" (A. Škema). In the video she disassembles allegorical elements from its original creative context in order to explore the figure of the contemporary human being as a mere conveyor of his/her own destruction.
Bernhard Wolf (Graz) is going to contribute by presenting a series of photos by
Aleksander Petlura, a Moscow artist who is collecting old russian costumes he then uses for his "photo stories" in which he describes the Russian history and culture.
